“The pre-trial application arose in the context of a prosecution for female genital mutilation (FGM) contrary to s. 45(1), the first of its kind to go to trial in Australia.

12 November 2015, following a trial, a jury convicted each of A2 and KM of two counts of FGM under s. 45, and Mr Vaziri of two counts of being an accessory after the fact to those FGM offences.”
The trial also set a new precedent in Evidence Law allowing the evidence to be heard via recorded interviews despite objections from the defence.
